We know that salvation is by grace through faith as it states in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” The bible also says in James 2:17-18, “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
At a quick glance, it seems the bible is contradicting itself. Which one is right? By grace through faith, meaning no credits to works or faith without works is dead? I thought we cannot work for salvation as it is a free gift. Yet, we are expected to produce works. Should we work hard or be hardly working?
This Sunday, we want to dig deeper into the Scriptures to understand how both of these passages are one and the same.
